Course Description:
During this session you’ll be introduced to the importance of implementing investment strategy as a component of a healthcare organization’s long-term plans. This session will discuss current market conditions, typical investment strategy for rural healthcare facilities, and opportunities for market participants. We will also address the importance of time and attention to managing the non-operating returns for healthcare providers, in addition to the operating margin, and will highlight opportunities to partner with outside vendors for investment officer services.

Geoff is an experienced professional when it comes to serving accounting, compliance, and operational needs of clients in the healthcare industry. He joined the firm in 1999 and works with clients across the country on audit and accounting engagements, debt financing projects, third-party reimbursement, tax matters, business combinations and Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting. He works with health systems, both Prospective Payment and Critical Access Hospitals, post-acute care providers and both physician-owned and hospital-based medical practices.

Michael developed a unique set of skills enhancing financial resources and capabilities of rural healthcare providers by combining his passion of investing with his experience as healthcare CFO. The study of investment legends including Warren Buffett and Ben Graham inspired the pursuit of finding ways to incorporate long-term investing lessons, when executed well, in growing financial assets for healthcare providers, especially rural. The growth of financial assets will either allow for the maintenance of critical health services or allow for the expansion of services in underserved areas.
