Nonprofit Webinar | Tax Considerations of Nontraditional Asset Donations
NP Webinar 2022 Event

Event Overview

Course Description:
Many nonprofits routinely seek cash contributions from generous donors and friends of the organization, but what if the organization is offered an alternative asset instead? With an ever diverse and expanding market of securities, investments and other assets being held by donors, nonprofits need to analyze the risks and rewards of accepting various types of non-cash donations. In this session we will review traditional investment holdings such as partnerships and S-Corporations, newer asset types such as digital currency and NFTs, and other unique asset types. We’ll discuss the risks to consider when accepting and holding these types of donations and what additional reporting requirements they may trigger.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify nontraditional asset types held by donors that may be offered in lieu of cash contributions to nonprofit organizations.
  • Analyze the risks and benefits of accepting nontraditional donations.
  • Assess additional tax reporting requirements that may result from the acceptance of non-cash donation types.
  • Discuss best practices for accepting, holding, and managing nontraditional assets and alternative investments.
