Overview of Upcoming GASB Standards
Presenter: Kurt Schlicker

This presentation provides an update on the upcoming GASB Standards that will be implemented in the next several years. It will touch on GASB Statements related to Conduit Debt, Private-Public-Partnerships, Public-Public Partnerships, Availability Payment Arrangements, Subscription Based Technology Arrangements, Accounting Changes and Error Corrections, and Compensated Absences. The presentation is intended to provide the attendee with specific areas that their government should focus on when implementing the upcoming GASB Statements.

Overview of Single Audit Changes, Compliance Matters, and Challenges
Presenter: Kurt Schlicker

This presentation provides an update on the changes to single audit as a result of COVID-19 and the related compliance matters and challenges that governments will experience for the current year and next several years. We will touch on the various COVID-19 related federal acts, the related federal programs and the Nevada impact. We will also discuss some of the compliance matters and challenges that we are seeing through the single audit process and that governments are experiencing. The presentation is intended to provide the attendee with a general grant update and what new grant matters to focus on.

  • Build internal controls to help prevent common deficiencies

Should We Consider an Internal or Performance Audit?
Presenters: Kim Higgins and James Menck

This one-hour presentation defines internal and performance/operational audits; the differences and values of each. It will touch on how to know if an internal or performance audit should be considered by the attendees; outline the benefits and value of each and provide a live case of a performance audit and results. The presentation is intended to provide the attendee with specific knowledge and understanding to bring additional value through this consulting area that they may not have considered before.

  • Instruct a live case of a performance audit to provide a live example of the results of a performance audit

Forensic Accounting for Government – Fraud Schemes, Red Flags and Internal Controls
Presenters: Eric Hansen and Brandon Waldren

In this session, we will discuss the most noted fraud schemes in the government sector using actual case examples. We will dissect these examples to discuss how the fraud occurred, red flags that were presented, and how the scheme could have been prevented/detected earlier. Every organization/entity is different with various resources available. We will discuss the different types of internal controls and best practices to be aware of and how your organization/entity may implement them.
